Or, well, not uncomfortable, but cold. Always cold. Not being able to go into the sun didn't help that, but hot springs did. Anastasia's only regret was not finding about this beautiful thing earlier; she'd only learned of it a few days ago from an... acquaintance. But she'd went as soon as possible, and now she was lounging in the first warm place she'd been in years. It was wonderful.
The bathing suit wasn't -- it was from a time when she had very different tastes, but was serviceable -- but she'd deal with that later. Like, later as in the next night, when she'd go buy a new one so she could indulge in this wonderful spring as much as possible. Maybe she could talk to the city about buying the land? Could she do that? Because if she could do that, she'd build a house right on top of the spring and sleep in it.
She ducked her head under the water -- something that wasn't very smart for any other race she was sure -- and then surfaced, breathing out a very contented sigh and leaning against the side of the pool. All that she needed was a bit of wine and a clearer view of the stars, since it was a little overcast. Still, the warmth.
All he had meant to do was visit his parents. Then he had gotten talked into visiting the springs. Not that he minded, the springs were one of the better parts of this town. Jackson stripped to his shorts and slowly got into the water, he settled into thinking on the past week. Winning first place in the Seattle competition and then getting about his parents "accident," packing the few clothes he owned then driving across the country just to find out he missed the funeral. Then his sister told him it was his fault for not being there. He got really mad and stormed off. Now here he is letting all go. Then he heard a noise and saw a stunning beauty come out of the water.
"I thought mermaids only lived in the oceans. Or are you an angel come to claim my sin filled soul." He said to the beautiful girl, NO, Woman in front of him.
Er... that... that was unexpected. And just a little bit weird, given that she hadn't heard him and that most humans tended not to leave their homes at night. But he wasn't human, her nose said, since of course dogs had to smell terrible in water. Anastasia had to wonder if that attempt at flattery was a side effect of being a mutt as well.
Her face settled into something carefully neutral, since she really didn't want to get in a fight at her new favorite place, and she just looked at him for a moment. "I don't think I'm either of those things."
I'm a thing from your nightmares. If she couldn't say it out loud, she'd at least think it.
"Aww... Darn. Can't blame a guy for trying, can ya? You seemed like good company, maybe a small conversation, some dinner and maybe a good movie after. That was with your okay first." Jackson said still smiling. He looked over at the woman. " It's been awhile since I've seen such beautiful sights."
He started looking at the sky, then back to the woman. He never looked at the sky anymore. Not since he was turned. He was either too busy or too scared. The bite on his neck reminding him what he was constantly. When he finally controlled it, he was still concerned about the moon's phases. It was still finally time.
This was, well, unexpected to say the least. Not that dating was something she was overly enthused with; there were more important things in her life than dating. Though, she supposed she had the luxury now that she was temporarily not trying to make money and, well, had plenty of it saved. Still, er, it wasn't something she was incredibly knowledgeable about, but there was something in the delivery here that struck her as not typical.
Part of it did have to do with the fact it was the middle of night, at a hot springs, and he'd just happened to come upon her.
Anastasia raised an eyebrow. "Do we even know each other?" Making sure would be good. There was a chance she was supposed to know him.
Jackson raised an eyebrow at her then laughed. "Nope. Never met before in my life that I know of. It's just the wild spirit in me. It turned me into a skateboarder, took me to the X games, but it also took my parents away." He said that last part a little quieter. He was still getting over the shock that they were gone for good. He for some reason never imagined that this could happen.
He suddenly shook himself out of the oncoming sorrow. " Sorry didn't mean for that to happen. Especially with lady like you in front of me." He had to get out of the dumps not fall further in.
There was just enough kindness (or was it mercy?) in her that she didn't just outright reject him. It was there and it was what was keeping her from just feeding from the poor sucker. And even if his attentions would probably make her uncomfortable, they could also work in her favor. Very well in her favor, considering how valuable werewolf pelts could be...
"Look, I'm sorry, but I don't like dating people I don't know." At least it was enough of a truth that it wasn't hard for her to say, even if the more accurate thing to tell him was that she was too busy trying to find someone to sell fairy dust for her to actually care about dating. Anastasia had to bite her lip to keep from going on, because there was a chance she would sound eager, and she definitely didn't want that after what she'd just said.
"Well, how about, if not a date, going to hang out with a friend, or a potential friend as it is. " Jackson said as he adjusted himself in the spring. He looked over at the woman across from him. " So may I ask why a beauty like you is out here at night anyway, I mean, I have heard of late night backyard dips. This is a little out of the way for that I'd imagine. " Jackson asked once he had thought about it.
She didn't seem to be a werewolf or Lycan. She could have been a vamp, but he hadn't seen any signs She could have been a water nymph, but he wasn't sure they were nocturnal.
She didn't have friends. The closest she had to a friend was Elijah, and the last time they'd met he had broken into her house and made himself at home. Not exactly the basis to a strong friendship, especially since his intention had been to threaten her. But she could use that to her advantage, if she had to, and if he thought he was in her good graces then he might just help her.
Wolf pelts weren't an overly demanded good, not like fairy dust was, but someone would pay for it. That was what she was interested in.
Before she could answer that -- even though she wasn't exactly looking forward to a date of any kind -- he asked her why she was here, and Anastasia stilled a moment. It wasn't like she could just tell him that she was a vampire. That would probably put a damper on things. "Couldn't sleep," she said. It was technically true, she guessed. "And I might be free to hang out sometime."
Jackson looked at her with interest. "I don't get much sleep myself these days. Got too much stuff on my plate." He was trying to decide if she was telling the truth. Not that he had reason to believe she was lying. He then remembered something." I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself. I am Jackson Cade, Professional Skateboarder and former college student." He said as if it made a difference now.
He looked back up at the sky. and settled back a little bit. He closed his eyes and laid back but not quite sleeping. "Sometimes..." He said after some thought. "It's good to slow down and listen to the quiet world."
This stranger was far too trusting. He trusted her enough to tell her who he was. He trusted her enough to relax around her. He trusted her enough to show his throat. Though it was unlikely he knew she was a vampire, but even if she weren't a vampire, it would still be incredibly easy to kill him right now and there would be so many ways to hide it around the pools. And that was without her interest in making a burrito out of his neck, but he was lucky in that regard; she didn't care for wolf blood.
"Anastasia," she said in reply. She, on the other hand, didn't trust him nearly enough as to give him her full name. Even without the connections she has (or, well, had, since she doesn't know how many of them would keep helping her), it was still easy enough to find out a number of things through her name. And she certainly didn't want him showing up at her house one afternoon for her.
Not that she thought he was entirely capable enough to figure out how do get information on someone, but she'd been surprised before. Notably when Elijah turned up, uninvited, at her house. Or rather in her house, since she most definitely didn't let him in through the front door.
He was getting philosophical, and she took it as her window of opportunity to leave. Anastasia certainly didn't want to have to listen to a mortal go on about how life was limited, especially if the same mortal had been trying to hit on her not too long before. She pulled herself onto the edge of the pool, glad for the overcast that blocked out much of the moonlight. "I think I should go. I have things I need to do tomorrow."
She got up and collected a towel she'd put on a nearby rock, shaking it open and wrapping it around herself. She looked back to him, forcing a small smile. "It was nice to meet you, Jackson. Maybe we'll see each other around. Enjoy the spring." She left as quickly as she could; partly so he could not follow, and partly because she most certainly didn't want to be caught unawares by the sun.

Azurelle: Positive. I only use one password for these proboard accounts, and 2 usernames. Besides, it doesn't tell me I entered things wrong. It redirects me to the home page but I'm still not logged in.
