Nymphs are the physical incarnations of elemental spirits, and come in the following types: water nymphs, vila, and dryads. Many nymphs are women, but not all of them are, and generalizing about them as such can be taken as offensive. Nymphs have a special connection to nature and must remain tethered to a sacred place, depending on their type. They are able to travel away from this site only by a few dozen miles or so and must to return to it periodically in order to restore their health.
Physically, nymphs are similar to humans, albeit with a wider range of natural hair colors and a higher average body temperature. The main aspect that sets them apart is their relative weakness and sensitive skin, which is easily irritated by most processed fibers such as cotton and polyester. Nymphs are especially vulnerable to blunt damage and bloodloss. On the other hand, they are known to be masters of camouflage when they're in the environment appropriate to their type. Typically, nymphs do not live to be older than 110.
Water nymphs, or naiads, are guardians bound to a water source who carry a fragrant smell of water lilies. At home among fish and aquatic life, they are natural swimmers and prefer being in the water, where they have a mild ability to influence small water currents and redirect about a gallon's worth as they please. When necessary, they are able to submerge themselves and evade detection.
Vilas are guardians bound to a mountain or high hill who are said to have a sharp, unusual smell, sometimes described as akin to ink or pine needles. They are associated with wind and are born with a mild ability to influence air currents -- enough to fly a flag or blow some leaves around. At high elevation, vilas are capable of a translucency that makes them hard to see against the sky.
Dryads are guardians bound to a forest or woodland. They are known for having a "green thumb" and have a mutually beneficial relationship with plantlife, able to perk up even the most wilted greens. As a result, they tend to smell strongly of whatever foliage they interact with most. When frightened or annoyed, dryads are able to disappear into the trees and go unseen.
Strengths:
element manipulation
camouflage (depending on environment)
Weaknesses:
physical weakness and sensitive skin
bound to a water source, high point, or woodland
