Store suggestion

Hello there!

This is a suggestion for the store.

I know that arcane materials exist in this world, used for casting spells and placing enchantments on things and such.
There could perhaps maybe be an option in the store for people to be able to acquire these materials in exchange for tokens. That might save on lots of posts of 'wow! Look at all this awesome stuff I found in the woods!'

It could be set up like a list of things available, for example;
Handful of pixie dust – X tokens
Half a unicorn horn – Y tokens (I'm sure I saw unicorn horn as a thing somewhere on the site)
Hallucinogenic mushrooms – R tokens
Bunch of drake feathers – Z tokens

Or! If you wanted to let people have a bit more free reign and creativity, people could apply for an item in exchange for tokens. Like for example, if I wished for Theo to acquire a mounted magical beast head for his store, I could send something like;
“Theo would like to swap 100 tokens for a mounted dire wolf head, please”
And it would then be up to whoever is running the store do decide if that sounds fair.

You could also perhaps have a 'random' option so people could trade in however many points they wanted and then the shop-runner can make something up for their character to find; adding another layer of fun randomness. Again, for example:
“Theo would like to swap 100 tokens for a random item, please.” And could receive a dire wolf head, a bucketful of pixie dust, an enchanted runestone or whatever else the lovely admin/ moderator thought might be fun to throw at him.

I just think it might allow for more creativity and flexibility with the wondrous things characters could have but still keep a lid on preventing people from having all the everything ever. It could also fuel character interactions with characters buying/ swapping items either through in-game stores or on the black market or wherever takes their fancy.

I am sorry for that being so long; I just hope it made some sort of sense.

Obviously this is just an idea and I will not be at all upset or offended or anything if you decide to say no.

Items such as fairy dust (Avery: should there be a difference between pixie dust and goblin dust? You're the fairy gal) and drake feathers would be obtainable in-character, although we might set up a more formal system for that. At present, it's both an option for characters to give items strictly in-character and for players to negotiate out-of-character deals to pay for such occurrences in tokens.

I do rather like the random lottery option, though, provided we can think of a long enough list of items (which I have no doubt we could, given time). Additional suggestions are welcome though.

Bottom line being, yes, I much like the idea of implementing more options for in-character knick knacks, especially now that we've got an actual collector/curio dealer on the site :3 (speaking of which, I've been meaning to pester you about setting up a thread between Theo and my drake, but it'll be a while before we've exhausted the potential of Akita's and his first thread and I don't want to drag him away from the action).

Another idea is that you might not necessarily need to pay for each individual item, per se, (in the case of drake feathers, for example) if they're not used to grant your character any extra power or ability, but instead could purchase a sort of "license to sell", in a sense, that would legitimize the in-character sale of an unlimited number of such items.

This is something we'll have to discuss pretty thoroughly, but I have to thank you for suggesting it. Bizarre lists of magical items have a special place in my heart.

I am very glad you are taking it into consideration, thank you!

As someone who cut their teeth in the RP world via tabletop, I too have a deep love of lists of all things weird and wonderful. Somewhere in one of my folders (real, paper folders) I have pages and pages and pages of random fantastical odds and ends. It's kind of why I was itching to suggest this; little details like that have always held a close place in my heart. It's often the small things that make the world seem more real, to me anyway.
I would of course be more than happy to find said folder and add a pile of suggestions for items.

I will admit – the idea partially came from Theo. It would be good to have a way for him to gain things for his shop without having to just keep randomly finding things everywhere, but I should imagine that most characters could make benefit of it.
If this does go into action, I shall have to make a list of all the things in his shop so people know what is available there, haha!

I do like the idea of getting the licence to sell for certain items. It helps add to that creativity option but keeps it close to reality, which is awesome.

Again, thank you for putting it into consideration. That is much appreciated.
And once we have come to some sort of closing with the Theo & Akita thread I would very much love to discuss a meeting between him and your drake. Darrion is fascinating and I'd love to get to meet him up close and personal.

um, hrm...
we could go simple and say there's really no difference other that the source.
or we could go a little more complex and say that it's more potent or better quality depending on what species of fairy it comes for.

i'm of the opinion that we should keep it simple for now, at least until we decide whether we want to add more fairy types.
